Secretary Nguyen Thien Nhan expects further contributions from scientists

Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Nguyen Thien Nhan, expressed his hope that scientists would make more contributions to the development of Ho Chi Minh City.

The city leader made the remarks at a workshop to discuss the situation and solutions to improve the quality of growth and competitiveness of the municipal economy amid the requirements of integration, which was held by the municipal People’s Committee on June 23.

Secretary Nhan emphasised the significance of the workshop which is expected to put forth a correct assessment of the actual situation in the city, thereby helping to find solutions to enhance the city’s economy.

He hoped to receive constructive comments and warnings from the experts and scientists in order to fuel the development of the national economic hub.

“Enhancing competitiveness and the quality of growth is one of the seven breakthrough programmes of Ho Chi Minh City. The municipal Party Committee needs to listen to the opinions of scientists and enterprises to get an accurate assessment of the area. Local citizens will acknowledge the valuable contributions of the scientists”, Secretary Nhan emphasised.

At the event, a number of presentations and comments from the experts and scientists analysed issues that the city should focus on, as well as bottlenecks inthe economic development, thus outlining the long-term directions required to improve the GRDP and labour productivity.

Ho Chi Minh City’s economic growth has always remained at a high level but the city is facing a number of problems including environmental pollution, traffic congestion, floods, rapid population growth, and others.
