Bac Lieu asked to focus on coping with climate change

Vice President, Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, worked with the authorities of the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu on August 7 to examine its Party building and socio-economic development.

VP Thinh highlighted the province’s great potential for developing wind and solar energy, tourism, and off-shore fishing, while urging the local authorities to give priority to the sectors.

She also requested that the locality protects the environment and natural resources, works to mobilise all social resources for development, promotes regional links and creates a favourable business climate to attract investment, while paying greater attention to climate change issues, such as landslides and saline intrusion.

The VP expressed her hope that Bac Lieu would continue to fully tap its potential and strengths to achieve stronger development in the future.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Nguyen Quang Duong, said Bac Lieu is striving to achieve economic growth of 7.0-7.5% by the end of 2018 with four economic pillars including agriculture; energy; tourism; and trade, service, health and education development.

In addition, Bac Lieu is actively implementing a development plan on the marine economy associated with ensuring security and defence in accordance with the Vietnam's Maritime Strategy.

Bac Lieu posted VND11.2 trillion in the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in the first half of 2018. The economic structure shifted in the right direction with agriculture accounting for 41.4%, industry - construction (15.72%) and services (41.3%).
