State President Tran Dai Quang made the statement during a meeting with 200 outstanding children in Hanoi on August 10. The delegates are participating in the 2018 National Festival for Outstanding Leaders of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers’ Organisation from August 8-10 in the capital city.

The festival gathered 200 outstanding children, who are the leaders of local Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers units across the nation, as well as 63 teachers in charge of the teams and 23 representatives of ethnic minority children. Many of them have made great efforts to overcome difficulties and challenges in life in order to achieve good results in learning as well as in the organisation’s activities.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, President Quang praised the positive results that the children and the leaders of Young Pioneers’ units have achieved in recent years. The president also hailed the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Council of Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers’ Organisation in carrying out their movements, as well as mentoring and helping children in their development.

The senior leader stated that the Party and State have always put their trust in children and adolescents to follow their predecessors and become the future masters of the country, contributing to the building of a more prosperous Vietnam “on a par with the great powers across the five continents”, as late President Ho Chi Minh always desired.

In order to assist children and youths to fulfill their dreams and aspirations, the President urged the Youth Union to continue effectively performing its role in taking charge of the Young Pioneers’ Organisation, focusing on building strong young pioneer teams both inside and outside of schools.

President Quang also expressed his wish that children and teenagers would promote the tradition of the previous generations, showing their love for the country through practical actions, such as respecting the elders in their families, paying tribute to national contributors and assisting friends and people in difficulties.

The State leader asked the authorities at all levels to strengthen child protection, care and education, while investing more in schools, children's houses and playgrounds to facilitate comprehensive development for children.

Special attention should be paid on children of policy beneficiaries and those in mountainous areas and islands, he stressed, adding the need to actively prevent, promptly detect and strictly handle all acts of child abuse.

First Secretary of the Youth Union’s Central Committee, Le Quoc Phong, vowed to promote his union’s duties in the near future, especially the tasks of caring for, protecting and educating children, while creating a favourable environment for children’s comprehensive development.
