HQ-671 vessel recognised as national treasure

The Vietnam People's Navy hosted a ceremony in the northern port city of Hai Phong on August 10 to confer the title of the Hero of the People's Armed Forces and announce the decision to recognise the HQ-671 as a national treasure.

The ceremony was attended by Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Nguyen Thien Nhan.

At the ceremony, the Organising Committee announced the President's decision to posthumously award the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to martyr Dong Quoc Binh, former marine combatant, Regiment 171, the Navy Zone 2; Nguyen Huu Phuoc, former captain of ship 69 Navy 69, Brigade 125, the Navy Zone 2; and Pham Xuan Sanh, former team leader of Team 179, Marine Corps Brigade 126 for their outstanding achievements in the resistance war against the US towards national salvation.

The Prime Minister's decision on recognising the HQ-671 military transport vessel was also announced at the ceremony.

The vessel was used in the resistance war against the US and is currently preserved at the Naval Museum in Hai Phong.
