Vietnam remains steadfast on revolutionary path

Seventy-three years ago, President Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi. Vietnam had made a long journey since the establishment of the Party 15 years previously. After immense hardships, blood, sweat, and tears endured by generations of people and soldiers, Vietnam today has escaped from poverty and underdevelopment and can now confidently stand on a par with international friends.

September 2, 1945 became a sacred moment and significant milestone in the history of national construction and defence which has lasted for thousands of years. For the first time, the Vietnamese people smashed the chains of slavery that were imposed on them by the colonialists and imperialists for nearly century, as well as the absolute monarchy for thousands of years before, to establish the first state to be governed by peasants and workers in Southeast Asia.

Since then the Vietnamese people have been liberated from oppression to become the true owners of their country, opening the era of independence, freedom and socialism. Such a glorious victory was by virtue of the sound leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, who closely aligned themselves with the common people and knew how to tap into the strength of national unity, combine the national strength with the spirit of the times and take advantage of opportunities to achieve the final victory.

Building on the valuable experience from the victory of the August Revolution, the Party has incessantly trained its members to be willing to sacrifice themselves for national independence, freedom and the people's happiness.

History requires that the great achievements of the revolution continue to be consolidated. Striving for national development, the Party is and has been renovating itself to become truly pure and strong in terms of political ideology and organisation. The Party has also continually endeavoured to increase its leadership and combat capacity.

With the persistent implementation of various resolutions and directives, the Party is seeking to educate its Party members to be both professionally competent and politically dedicated in order to prevent political and moral degradation, as well as the signs of "self-evolution" and "self-transformation", corruption, wastefulness and remoteness from the people.

The Party has been determined to educate its members and officials to have an organised and democratic working style with respect and responsibility for the people as the key factors in pushing for industrialisation and modernisation.

There are still many challenges and difficulties ahead but it can be affirmed that never in history has Vietnam possessed the level of position as it has today: the people's lives are secure, defence and security is maintained, and the economy is growing with the fulfilment of many socio-economic targets.

The war against corruption has become a widespread movement and general tendency in society that no-one may be an outsider. The determination of the Party's top leader represents the Party and people's will and communicates a strong message on the strength of discipline and inspection. An honest and facilitating government is stepping up downsizing its apparatus and building a transparent public administration for the sake of the people and enterprises.

We have full confidence in the future when the policies that are introduced are in accordance with the people's wishes and formulated from reality are into fruition. Under the leadership of the Party, and with the firm belief of the masses, the entire Vietnamese nation is making steady steps on the way forward, all for the goal of a wealthy people in a strong, democratic, equitable and civilised nation.
