The event was attended by Lao Deputy Prime Minister Bounthong Chitmany, ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General AKP Mochtan, and the leaders of justice and law ministries and attorney generals of the ASEAN member countries.

In his opening remarks, Lao Deputy PM Bounthong Chitmany stressed that in intra-ASEAN cooperation, one of the important characteristics of the ASEAN Political-Security Community pillar is to build ASEAN into a rules-based, people-oriented, people-centred community, with a focus on protecting and promoting peace, stability and cooperation for the development within Southeast Asia and around the world.

He highlighted the significant role played by the ALAWMM in regulating the parties concerned in order to bring the aforementioned goal to fruition.

After the opening session, participants discussed, considered and approved the report of the 18th meeting of the ASEAN Senior Law Officials (ASLOM), which took place in Vientiane from October 9 to 10.

On the same day, Minister of Justice Le Thanh Long was involved in a bilateral working session with his Cambodian counterpart, Angvong Vathana, on the sidelines of ALAWMM 10.

At the meeting, the two ministers exchanged views on the judicial work of each country, reaching a consensus on the organisation of the second judicial conference between the border provinces of Vietnam and Cambodia in 2019.

Both sides expressed their belief that the cooperation between the two Justice Ministries would continue to thrive in a stronger and more extensive manner, aiming to meet the socio-economic development requirements of the two countries and contributing positively to strengthening the fine neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive, sustainable and long-term cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.
