The diplomat made the remark while addressing the 25th anniversary of Vietnam-Uruguay diplomatic ties (August 11, 1993-2018) in Montevideo on October 23.

He reviewed the significant milestones in the bilateral relations over the past 25 years, hailing the establishment of diplomatic ties with Uruguay as a positive highlight in Vietnam’s foreign affairs and a success in the country’s policy of prioritising the development of relations with traditional friendly countries in Latin America as a whole and Uruguay in particular.

Dung suggested that the two sides continue working closely together in the exchange of delegations, further promote the current cooperation mechanisms, including the political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries, and actively negotiate new cooperation documents, aiming to create a more favourable legal corridor for bilateral relations.

For his part, Uruguayan Foreign Minister, Rodolfo Nin Novoa, applauded the traditional and friendly relations between the two countries, affirming that the establishment of diplomatic ties with Vietnam 25 years ago was significant milestone and a righteous strategy of the Uruguayan government.

The two governments have been unceasingly accelerating and developing bilateral relations across all fields, while actively cooperating and supporting each other in multilateral forums, in addition to conducting the regular exchange of all-level delegations aiming to share experience and take joint action for common benefits, he said.

Nin Novoa reiterated the Uruguayan government’s commitment to giving continuous priority to developing its relationship with Vietnam in a more extensive manner in the future, covering all areas, for the happiness of the people of the two nations.

On the occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy in Argentina, concurrently in charge of Uruguay, held the “Vietnam Day” event in order to introduce Vietnam’s traditional cultural features, unique fine art & handicraft products, and typical dishes to the Uruguayan friends.

A photo exhibition on Vietnam and its people also attracted attention from participants, with more than 30 photos on display, demonstrating Vietnam’s cultural diversity, landscapes and socio-economic development during the Doi Moi (Renewal) period.
