Defence Minister holds talks with Cuban counterpart

Gen. Ngo Xuan Lich, Politburo member, Vice Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Defence Minister held talks with Sen. Lieut. Gen. Leopoldo Cintra Frias, Politburo member, member of the State Council and Council of Ministers, and Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) of Cuba on November 26.

The Cuban official is leading a high-ranking military delegation of MINFAR on a working visit to Vietnam from November 24-28 at the invitation of Gen. Ngo Xuan Lich.

During the talks, the two sides informed each other of their countries’ current situation and discussed regional and international issues of common concern.

They reviewed the recent defence cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, especially key cooperation plans in the 2017-2019 period and agreed on bilateral defence cooperation orientations in the future

The Cuban delegation’s visit is a contribution to the practical and effective promotion of bilateral defence ties, thus strengthening the traditional friendship between the two Parties, States, armies and peoples.

After the talks, Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lt. Gen. Tran Don hosted a reception for the Cuban guests.

The schedule of the Cuban official and his delegation includes working sessions with representatives from the General Department of Defence Industry (GDDI) and the Economic Department under the Vietnamese Ministry of Defence; visits to GDDI’s Factory Z131 and the Shipbuilding Company 189, as well as a number of units under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Their activities also include visits to historical and cultural relic sites in Hanoi.
