The suggestion was made by National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, at a working session with the provincial authorities on March 16, discussing the South Central Coast locality’s socio-economic situation and Party building work in 2018 and the first quarter of 2019.

Reports at the meeting showed that, in 2018, the provincial economy continued to grow positively, with the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) increasing by 8.08% compared to 2017. State budget revenue last year exceeded the estimate, while in the first quarter of 2019 collection was estimated at VND 2.7 trillion, reaching 28.4% of the yearly estimate, up 7% compared to the same period in 2018. The total social investment development capital in 2018 was at VND 24 trillion, up 19.8% compared to 2017.

Hailing the efforts made by Binh Thuan in the past year, NA Chairwoman Ngan praised the province in identifying the potential industries and areas to focus on, such as clean and renewable energy, tourism and high-tech agriculture, while infrastructure development has been heavily invested in.

The top legislator proposed that the province should focus on improving its business investment environment and promoting private economic development, while effectively using the available resources for its socio-economic development.

It is necessary to boost the construction of new rural areas in a sustainable way and restructure the agricultural sector in the direction of improving quality, efficiency and added value, she said, stressing the need for promptly handling new problems arising from the grassroots level and maintaining political security and social order.

Ngan also urged Binh Thuan to make renovations in implementing and fulfilling the Party, State and NA’s resolutions, as well as the goals set in the provincial Party Congress Resolution during its 2015-2020 tenure.

The province should complete the rearrangement of commune-level administrative units in 2019, while facilitating the streamlining of the province’s political system, boosting the quality of public servants and effectively implementing Party building work.

Earlier on March 15, NA Chairwoman Ngan visited and presented gifts to three local Vietnamese Heroic Mothers in Ham Tan and Ham Thuan Nam districts.
