Dien Bien urged to attract experienced and potential investors in tourism

Dien Bien province should attract investors with experience and investment potential in developing its tourism to make it worthy of the local potential and become a spearhead economic sector.

The suggestion was made by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam at a working session with Dien Bien authorities on March 17.

Reports at the meeting showed that in 2018, the province’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) reached over VND10.4 trillion, up. 7.17% compared to 2017. Per capita income reached VND27.31 million/person/year. In the first three months of 2019, Dien Bien’s GRDP was estimated at VND2.7 trillion, up 6.35% over the same period last year. The province has piloted macadamia cultivation with an area of 2,169 ha, in addition to 5,127 ha of rubber and 3,995 ha of coffee.

Speaking at the session, Deputy PM Dam praised the results Dien Bien has achieved in various fields.

Responding to proposals from Dien Bien for tourism development and restoration of historical relic site of Dien Bien Phu Battlefield, Dam urged the local agencies and its cultural sector to actively coordinate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to complete the procedures to further implement the next steps in facilitating the conservation and restoration of national relics.

The province also needs to review and supplement materials for the Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum, in which it is necessary to pay attention to the collection of materials from Dien Bien soldiers.

Deputy PM Dam also suggested Dien Bien to review human resource planning to serve the supply of teaching staff for the local education sector at all levels.

Earlier on Saturday, the government senior official offered incense to the heroic martyrs at the A1 Martyrs’ Cemetery, visited Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum and A1 Hill, and presented gifts to policy families in Dien Bien Phu city. He also joined the opening of the Dien Bien Ban (Bauhinia) Flower Festival 2019.
