Hanoi looks to strengthen cooperation with Sweden

Hanoi in particular and Vietnam as a whole always treasure the time-honoured relations based on mutual trust and sincerity with Sweden, which will be a solid foundation for the two countries to continue enhancing their cooperation in the future, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung has said.

Chung made the remark during his reception at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi on May 7 for Crown Princess of Sweden Victoria Ingrid Alice Desiree, her spouse and a high-level Swedish delegation, who are on an official visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Sweden diplomatic ties.

He recalled that in 2016, Hanoi received and had a working session with a contingent of 18 leading Swedish businesses, headed by trade minister Ann Linde. In 2017 and 2018, the city continued to welcome many Swedish firms to visit and explore cooperation, business and investment opportunities.

Swedish-invested projects have been playing an important role in Hanoi’s economic development, the official said.

Chung emphasised that Hanoi is currently calling for investment in some priority areas, including the building of waste treatment facilities, advanced combustion power generation technologies, environmental technologies, healthcare, education, infrastructure construction and particularly in smart city building.

He voiced his belief that the visit of Crown Princess Victoria Ingrid Alice Desiree and her husband would open many new cooperation opportunities, affirming that the Hanoi authorities and people always see Sweden as a close partner and friend.

For her part, Crown Princess of Sweden Victoria Ingrid Alice Desiree expressed her delight at the finely growing relations between the two countries as well as Vietnam’s current socio-economic development.

She stated that through fostering business cooperation and learning from each other, the two sides are working together to construct an increasingly solid friendship for the current generation as well as for future generations.
