They include Sister Thich Tam Tri, Head of the Vietnamese Buddhists Society in Japan; Associate Professor Ngo Minh Thuy, Vice President of VNU University of Languages and International Studies; Professor Vo Tong Xuan, Rector of Nam Can Tho University; and Nguyen Van Hoe, former headmaster of Dong Du Japanese Language School.
A number of Japanese individuals and organisations were also honoured for fostering bilateral ties, including Most Venerable Yoshimizu Daichi; Professor Furuta Motoo, Rector of Vietnam-Japan University; and the Asaba Association.
The honouring ceremony took place in Tokyo on July 23, where the Japanese Foreign Ministries conferred decorations on 63 organisations and 206 individuals for their outstanding contributions to promoting the relations between Japan and other countries.
At the ceremony, Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono expressed his sincere thanks to these groups and individuals for their part in Japan’s external relations.
In an interview, Sister Thich Tam Tri stated that the Japanese Foreign Ministry’s recognition is not only her pride but also the pride of the Buddhist community and Vietnamese people living in Japan.
She also thanked Japanese individuals and organisations for supporting many Vietnamese people who have travelled to Japan for work and study and later return to make contributions to their homeland.
