Quan met with Heng Swee Keat, Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Finance and First Assistant Secretary-General of the People’s Action Party; held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan; held a working session with People’s Association; and visited the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies and the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
In the meetings with Heng and Vivian, the two sides exchanged views on regional and global issues and relations between the two parties and countries, and discussed ways to foster multifaceted cooperation in the time ahead.
Quan thanked the Singaporean side for having collaborated with Vietnam in training personnel of the CPV for years and highly appreciated Singapore as Vietnam’s leading partner in multiple areas, including industry, education, tourism, science-technology and human resources development.
He proposed the two sides continue to unlock potential in other fields, particularly when the two countries have joined the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
The Singaporean leaders spoke highly of Vietnam’s robust growth in recent years and agreed to bolster the Vietnam – Singapore bilateral relations and ties within ASEAN and to strengthen economic partnership and people-to-people exchanges.
They voiced support for Vietnam as the ASEAN Chair in 2020 and congratulated Vietnam for its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020–2021 term.
They also pledged to continue working with Vietnam in personnel training and step up cooperation in new areas
