The event was chaired by Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith, and attended by ASEAN and dialogue partners’ ambassadors in Laos, along with representatives from international organisations.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister Kommasith underscored that the results that ASEAN has achieved over the past 52 years, in particular, the establishment of the ASEAN Community in 2015 with three key pillars of Politics-Security, Economics, Culture-Society has contributed to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

He added that cooperation between countries members as well as between ASEAN and international friends and dialogue partners has been strengthened over the years.

ASEAN is among one of the high-achieving regional organisations of the world and plays an important role in the open, inclusive and ASEAN-centred regional architecture, the minister noted.

He also took this occasion to report about the outcomes of the recently concluded 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) in Bangkok, in which ministers underlined the need to further strengthen cooperation and advance our partnership to ensure sustainability in all dimensions for ASEAN amidst the rapid changes in Southeast Asia and beyond.
