At the event, Dr. Nguyen Dai Trang, Director of the CVS in Toronto, touched back on the milestones during the autumn days of 1945, with the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2.
Feeling proud of Vietnam’s achievements in socio-economic development over the past years, the Overseas Vietnamese in Canada, who participated in the ceremony, expressed their wishes to contribute to the fatherland’s development.
David Agnew, President of Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology in Toronto, affirmed that the relations between Vietnam and Canada are not only about the partnership but also the friendship. Meanwhile, Professor Daphne Taras from Ryerson University noted that the Canada – Vietnam relationship will be developed strongly in the future.
Canada is the third highest trading partner of Vietnam in the Americas (after America and Brazil) and vice versa, Vietnam is the largest trading partner of Canada in ASEAN. There are around 250,000 Vietnamese people studying, working and living in Canada.
On the same day, Vietnamese Consul General to Hong Kong (China) Tran Thanh Huan hosted a reception at Shangri-La Hotel on August 22 on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of Vietnam National Day and 25th anniversary of Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong.

At the event, Consul General Tran Thanh Huan reviewed the outstanding achievements of Vietnam over the past 30 years and affirmed that Vietnam continues its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, development, and multilateralisation and diversification of relations as well as always being a friend, reliable partner, and responsible member of the international community.
The Consul General emphasised that Vietnam - China comprehensive strategic partnership continued to developed in 2018, with regular meetings and visits between senior leaders of the two countries.
He also said that the year 2019 marks the spectacular breakthrough of investment from Hong Kong (China) to Vietnam, with 134 new projects and US$5.3 billion of registered capital.
For his part, Financial Secretary of Hong Kong (China) Paul Chan Mo-po appreciated the socio-economic achievements that Vietnam has conquered over the past year, while noting that Hong Kong always considers Vietnam as one of the most important partners in ASEAN.
