During the visit, Thuong took part in separate meetings with Bauyrzhan Baibek, First Deputy Chairman of the ruling Nur Otan party; Nurlan Nigmatulin, Chairman of the Mazhilis (lower house) of the Kazakh parliament; Marat Tazin, Secretary of State of Kazakhstan; Mukhtar Tileuberdi, Kazakh First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; and the leaders of the Communist People’s Party of Kazakhstan (KNPK).
The Kazakh leaders warmly welcomed the CPV delegation, stressing that on the basis of the memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Nur Otan party and the CPV, signed in November 2018, the visit is important in strengthening the friendly relations between the two countries’ ruling parties, creating a crucial political base to further accelerate multifaceted cooperation between Kazakhstan and Vietnam.
At the meetings, the two sides informed each other of the current situations of each party and country, exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, and discussed orientations and measures to boost ties between the CPV and the Nur Otan party in particular, and between the two countries as a whole.
They affirmed that Vietnam and Kazakhstan have the fine traditional friendly relations which have been cultivated over many generations. Political relations between the two countries have been growing finely through high-level visits, with the two sides coordinating closely and supporting each other at the United Nations and other international and regional forums.

Bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation has seen positive changes, especially since the Vietnam-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement came into effect in October 2016. However, two-way trade revenue has yet to meet with the potential of the two countries, requiring more efforts from both sides, with a focus on exploiting each other’s strengths and needs, they said.
Discussing the regional and international situations, Politburo member Thuong informed the Kazakh side of the current situation and complicated developments in the East Sea, affirming Vietnam’s consistent stance of resolving the East Sea disputes through peaceful means in line with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The Kazakh side showed their concern over the developments in the East Sea, sharing Vietnam’s stance of peacefully handling the problems on the basis of international and Vietnamese laws, thereby ensuring security, safety and freedom of aviation and navigation in the East Sea.
