Deputy Foreign Minister Son held meetings with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz.
The Vietnamese diplomat also conducted political consultations with First Deputy Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina González and worked with leaders of the Cuban Communist Party Central Committee's Department for External Relations as well as offering flowers at the Monument of President Ho Chi Minh in Havana.
During meetings and talks, the two sides expressed their pleasure at the strengthened traditional friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba in various areas including politics, economy, trade, defence, agriculture, construction, education, health, transport and others.
The two sides have also maintained regular exchanges of high-ranking delegations, particularly the visit to Cuba by Vietnamese General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong in March 2018 and the visit to Vietnam by President of the Council of State and Council of Ministers of Cuba Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez in November 2018, which contributed to further fostering political relations between the two countries.
The economic, trade and investment relations between Vietnam and Cuba have also seen stable development with trade revenue reaching US$335.8 million in 2018, up 25% compared to 2017.
The two sides also agreed to promote the traditional and special relationship between the two countries and two foreign ministries, particularly the arrangement of high-ranking visits, the organisation of political, economic and cultural activities as well as people-to-people diplomacy activities in 2020 to mark the 60th anniversary of Vietnam – Cuba diplomatic relations.
The two foreign ministries affirmed that they will continue to coordinate with other ministries and sectors of both countries to boost investment in areas both sides have advantages in towards aiming for a bilateral trade revenue of US$500 million by 2022.
They also agreed to continue to implement cooperation mechanisms and support each other at United Nations and other multilateral forums.
