From October 7 to 9, Ambassador Manh and his entourage were in Kalmykia for the first working visit to the federal subject of Russia, under the invitation from Head of Kalmykia Batu Khasikov, who officially took office mid-last month.
As reported by Nhan Dan Newspaper correspondent in Russia, at the meeting with the Head of the Republic of Kalmykia on Monday evening, Ambassador Manh said that his visit aimed to explore the potentials and strengths of Kalmykia, as well as the similarities and supplement of both sides to seek for cooperation opportunities in all areas of mutual interest.
Both sides discussed trade, economic and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Russia, including Kalmykia. The Vietnamese ambassador briefed the host on the economic and trade relations between the two countries, which have grown tremendously in the last few years, especially since October 2016 when the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and The Eurasian Economic Union was signed, of which Russia is a key member.
They agreed that the two sides have many potentials to boost economic and trade relations as there are a range of key goods have not yet been introduced to each other's markets.
Currently, the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia is making every effort to support localities of the two countries to establish relations and develop direct cooperation, Manh said, adding that twin cities of both sides have been formed and have effectively promoted their own strengths in the bilateral cooperation.
The diplomat also noted that Vietnam and Russia have great potential for cooperation, first of all in agriculture, a key area of Vietnam’s focus, along with key agricultural products, seafood, textiles, footwear, tourism products and services.
Expressing his delight to welcome Manh and his entourage, one of his first international guests during his new term in office, Khasikov said that the two sides could take advantage of the geographical position of Kalmykia in transiting goods from Europe to Asian countries and vice versa.
He also expressed his desire to visit Vietnam as soon as possible to directly explore the potentials and opportunities for developing cooperative relations with the Southeast Asian nation.

During the visit, Ambassador Manh and his delegation also toured the National Museum of Kalmykia and visited the Kalmyk State University, where they had a meeting with the university’s leaders, lecturers and overseas students there.
Standing among the top 30 key universities in Russia, with more than 9,000 international students from 43 countries, including two from Vietnam, Kalmyk State University’s leaders expressed their wish to promote cooperation with universities in Vietnam and asked the Vietnamese Embassy to support and connect the Kalmyk State University with other training facilities in Vietnam, particularly to carry out joint research projects, as well as towards cooperation in training and student exchange.
