After 10 years, the annual per capita income in rural areas reached over VND63 million per person each year, an increase of more than 300% compared to 2008. Over VND73.5 trillion was mobilised to implement the programme. The growth rate of labour productivity in rural areas in 2018 reached VND90 million per person, an increase of more than 200% compared to 2008.

Speaking at the conference, Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan emphasised that the national target programme on new-style rural areas has created a driving force to promote the synergy of the entire political system.

However, there are still some unsatisfactory results, such as only 1,370 households in the whole city having participated in cooperatives, accounting for only 7.7% of agricultural production households; and the income of agricultural workers in the five suburban districts of the city being only one-third of that of the urban area, he noted.

Secretary Nhan also urged for more drastic measures to fulfil the target of all 56 communes in Ho Chi Minh City meeting all criteria of new-styled rural areas by 2020.

On this occasion, people and officials of Binh Loi Commune, Binh Chanh District were honoured with the Government's Emulation Flag; three collectives and one individual received the Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister; and over 80 collectives and individuals were awarded with Certificates of Merit by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
