Political-military conference lays out tasks for army

The political-military conference for the entire army opened in Hanoi on December 9 for a review of the performance of military and national defence tasks in 2019 and to set out tasks for 2020.

The conference, held by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of Defence, was attended by Politburo member and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The conference was chaired by Politburo member, Defence Minister, General Ngo Xuan Lich who is also Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly valued the comprehensive outcomes and the resolve to perform duties by officers and soldiers in the past year.

The Central Military Commission and the Defence Ministry have done a good job of giving military-defence advice to the Party and State, he said, adding that they have also proposed sound, timely and effective reactions to any unforeseen circumstances that have emerged.

Regarding military-defence tasks for the next year, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence to continue to effectively implement the national protection strategy in regards to the current situation.

He also requested the entire army to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the commission’s leadership resolution for 2020, noting that they need to make early forecasts, precise assessments and timely proposals to the Party and State so as to successfully handle all military and defence circumstances.
