Germany’s Foreign Ministry appreciates Vietnam’s support in COVID-19 fight

The German Foreign Ministry expressed its gratitude and high appreciation for the noble acts of the Vietnamese Government and the Vietnamese community in Germany in supporting the European country’s efforts in combatting COVID-19, in a statement published on its Facebook page on April 14.

Specifically, the Vietnamese Government presented 110,000 medical face masks to the Government of Germany to equip frontline units in the epidemic battle. Together with Germany, some other European nations seriously impacted by the disease, including France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain, also received the same number of masks as gifts from the Vietnamese side.

The statement also said that, in recent days, the Vietnamese community in Germany have mobilised thousands of medical face masks, homemade masks and medical gloves and presented them to hospitals and nursing homes. In addition, many Vietnamese restaurants in Germany have shown solidarity by delivering thousands of free meal sets to doctors and nurses working in hospitals’ active treatment centres.

According to the German Foreign Ministry, in reply to Vietnam’s support, the World University Service of Germany (WUS) presented 20 water filtration devices to the Vietnamese Government to supply clean water for about 12,000 people, especially for those in remote and isolated areas.

The statement on the German Foreign Ministry’s Facebook page immediately received a lot of interactions, likes and shares as well as comments showing appreciation and gratitude for the sentiments of the Government and people of Vietnam toward the German friends.
