National Reunification Day marked in HCM City

A ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday (April 30) to mark the 45th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975-2020).

Among the attendants were Politburo members, including National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, and Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan.

In his remarks, Nhan recalled the glorious tradition of the nation and the historical significance of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign which precipitated the Great 1975 Spring Victory.

He expressed his immense gratitude for the huge sacrifices of generations of revolutionary predecessors, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, armed forces, war invalids, families of fallen soldiers and national contributors and the youth volunteer force.

Over the past 45 years, the Party Committee, authorities and people of HCM City have joined with the whole country to implement the renewal policy; promote patriotism, self-reliance and the power of great national unity; and accelerate the cause of national industrialisation and modernisation and international integration, thereby successfully fulfilling the goal of building a prosperous, peaceful and strong Vietnam with a democratic, fair and civilised society, he emphasised.

Later on the same day, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan visited Vietnamese heroic mothers and heroes of the people’s armed forces in the city who contributed significantly to the struggle for the liberation of the south and national reunification.

* A flag-raising ceremony was held at the Hien Luong-Ben Hai historical relic site in Vinh Linh district, the central province of Quang Tri, on Thursday to mark the 45th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.

After the ceremony, officials and people of Quang Tri offered incense in a tribute to fallen soldiers at the National Road 9 Martyrs’ Cemetery, the Truong Son National Martyrs’ Cemetery, and the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel.
