National Election Council makes debut

Politburo member Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, who is also National Assembly Chairwoman and Chairperson of the National Election Council (NEC) and 20 other members of the NEC officially presented themselves at the ongoing ninth session of the 14th legislature in Hanoion June 12.

Also on the morning of June 12, the NA passed a resolution ratifying the Vice Chairpersons and members of the NEC, with 92.96% of the deputies voting in favour.

The council comprises four Vice Chairpersons and 16 members. The Vice Chairpersons are Politburo Member and NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong, Politburo Member and Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Tran Thanh Man, and Member of the Party Central Committee and Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh.

Expressing gratitude to the NA for its election and ratification of the members of the NEC, NA Chairwoman and NEC Chairperson Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said it was an honour but also a great responsibility that the Party and NA have entrusted in the council’s members.

She also stressed the significance of the election of deputies to the 15th legislature and all-level People’s Councils for 2021-2026 in terms of the operation of the State apparatus from the central to grassroots levels, especially the institutionalisation of resolutions to be adopted at the coming 13th National Party Congress and indeed Party Congresses at all levels.

On behalf of the council, she pledged to closely coordinate with the relevant agencies and organisations to perform all tasks to the highest standard as defined in the Constitution and laws.

Previously on June 11, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan was elected as Chairperson of the NEC in Hanoi on June 11, with 100% of the votes in her favour.
