Intellectuals urged to accompany national development

Politburo member Tran Quoc Vuong has asked intellectuals, scientists and artists across the nation to make further contributions to national development.

Speaking at a meeting held in Hanoi on July 31 with nearly 200 delegates representing more than 6.5 million intellectuals, scientists and artists throughout the country, Vuong said that the forces have always played a very important role in the country’s long history of thousands of years of national construction and defence, while contributing to developing the long and unique civilisation of the nation.

The event was held by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communications and Education to mark the 90th anniversary of the Party's Communications and Education sector.

Politburo member Vuong, who is also a permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, said that during the Doi Moi (renewal) period, intellectuals, scientists and artists have also made an important contribution to bringing the country out of its socio-economic crisis and underdeveloped situation to achieve historic and significant progress.

In the near future, as the world and region’s situation could remain complicated and unpredictable, Vuong said that it is necessary to continue to stimulate patriotism and the great national unity bloc, as well as promoting the role of intellectuals, scientists and artists, improving the quality of human resources and promoting innovation and scientific and technological application to create new motivation for the country to develop quickly and sustainably.

He affirmed that in service of the country’s development in the new period, the building and development of a quality contingent of intellectuals, scientists and artists has become an important strategic task of the Party and State.

Vuong asked intellectuals, scientists and artists to continue loyally accompanying the nation’s development and bringing their talents to make more valuable and quality works, serving the renovation process in the causes of national construction and defence.
