In his congratulatory letter, the Party and State leader conveyed his best wishes to VUF officials, civil servants, public employees and workers, as well as those working in the area of people-to-people diplomacy over the periods.

He highlighted the key role played by the VUFO and its predecessors in mobilising global support for Vietnam’s righteous struggles in the past, breaking the siege and sanctions against the country, enhancing friendly relations and cooperation, and taking advantage of the valuable support of international friends in the current cause of national construction and protection, extensive reform and international integration.

With its considerable contributions, the VUFO was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order, the first-class Independence Order and many other noble awards from the Party and State. “On behalf of the Party and State leaders, I warmly commend and congratulate the VUFO on its achievements over the past 70 years,” Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong said.

The rapid, complicated and unpredictable developments of the world and the regional situation are profoundly affecting international relations, people’s movement worldwide and Vietnam’s external environment, setting out new requirements for external affairs in general and people-to-people diplomacy in particular, he noted.

The leaders encouraged the VUFO and its affiliates to actively reform their operational content, methods and efficiency under the motto “proactive, flexible, creative and effective”, worthy of being the core force in people-to-people diplomacy, which is one of the pillars of modern Vietnamese diplomacy.

He emphasised that people-to-people diplomacy should closely coordinate with diplomacy across Party and State channels to successfully realise the country’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development, multilateralisation and diversification of relations, and proactive and active international integration, thus strengthening the solidarity and friendship between nations and promoting peace, cooperation, democracy and social progress in the world, contributing to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, firmly defending Vietnam’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and enhancing the prestige and position of the country.

Concluding the letter, Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong again wished the officials, civil servants, public employees and workers of the VUFO and those working in the area of people-to-people diplomacy good health, happiness and success.
