The organising board presented three A, three B, three C, and five consolation prizes to the best entries, which stood out from the more than 8,400 submissions.

The contest was held from February 5 to May 15, 2021, with the aim to increase community awareness about environmental protection and the management of plastic waste, thus calling on people to limit the amount of plastic waste discharged into the environment.

It received 8,434 entries from students and lecturers from 40 universities and colleges as well as journalists from 30 press agencies and members of photography associations and clubs across the country.

Within the award ceremony, the UNDP in coordination with the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands kick-started a campaign entitled ‘From Mountains to the Sea – Beat Plastic Pollution’.

The campaign will last six months in both online and offline format with various activities to tackle plastic waste, replace or eliminate single-use plastic in Da Nang City, and the provinces of Binh Duong, Binh Dinh, Binh Thuan, and Quang Ninh.

Also on the occasion, the UNDP announced the launching of a mobile application named ‘San Rac’ (Trash Hunt), which enables users to report and monitor indiscriminate dumping sites. Users can take photos and record the information on the map, which will inform local authorities and stakeholders.
