The total cost of US$78.5 million was financed by US$59 million of concessional loans from the World Bank, US$1.3 million in non-refundable aid, and the remainder from counterpart funding.
With a capacity of 10,000 cubic metres per day, the environmentally friendly plant is able to process the sewage created by 78,000 residents of Dong Hoi city.
The plant is part of the Dong Hoi environmental sanitation project, which was started in March 2007 and had two of its three phases completed in March 2014.
In addition to the Duc Ninh system, the project includes other components aimed at improving household and school sanitation, renovating landfills and raising public awareness of environmental sanitation.
A World Bank representative said the Dong Hoi project is a typical project in terms of progress, quality and disbursement among environmental sanitation projects funded by the World Bank in the central coastal cities.
Based on that, the World Bank has agreed to continue to provide funding for the third phase of the project in order to achieve the goal of improving environmental sanitation and public health.
