Measures need to be taken to restructure the economy towards reducing the consumption of nonrenewable resources and stimulating development of ecological technologies and environmental services, Hai said.

He insisted on improving the efficiency of State management over rational exploitation of natural resources and enabling enterprises to develop environmentally friendly and energy-saving technological applications.

The deputy PM also suggested making consumer practices more sustainable, increasing financial resources for environmental protection and adaptation to climate change, and mobilising and effectively utilising investment sources from organisations and individuals both at home and abroad.

Communication work needs to be boosted as well to raise public awareness of economical use of natural resources, environmental conservation and response to climate change and rising sea water, Hai added.

On the occasion, Deputy PM Hai also called for people to work together to protect the environment in their daily life by classifying, recycling and reusing waste; reducing the use of plastic bags and economically using materials and fuels, aiming to alleviate risks of natural calamities and environmental pollution and contribute to achieving the millennium goal of ensuring environmental sustainability.
