USAID and MOIT will co-operate through a five-year technical assistance program that is expected to result in clean energy development and improved energy efficiency, thereby promoting low-emission development in Vietnam, said USAID Mission Director Joakim Parker.

The two sides plan to focus on initiatives relating to capacity of building and implementing effective clean-energy policies; measures to enhance energy efficiency in energy-intensive sectors of the economy; and capacity of government, the private sector and other stakeholders in implementing renewable energy for Vietnam.

Addressing the signing ceremony, MOIT Deputy Minister Cao Quoc Hung noted that co-operation between the two sides, particularly USAID’s support in the field of clean energy, would contributing facilitating Vietnam’s energy development and response to climate change.

The signing of the LOI will create a foundation for both sides to design and implement co-operative contents and projects in the future, Hung added.

USAID will support Vietnam’s efforts to respond to climate change through several initiatives including the Vietnam forest and delta project, the Vietnam clean energy project and the project to enhance capacity and institutional reform for green growth and sustainable development.
