Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment Vo Tuan Nhan noted that he appreciated the importance of the dialogue and emphasised that the event was a sign of the close and special cooperation between the two Ministries in implementing the commitments they made in the memorandum of understanding on environmental cooperation they signed in 2013.
He also expressed his hope that the two sides would continue to promote cooperation in the field of environmental protection and coping with climate change in the future.
Accordingly, Japan would support Vietnam in perfecting legal institutions through conferences and seminars, training Vietnamese management officials and experts and developing specific cooperation projects in the future.
The Japanese ministry will also support Vietnam in developing and enforcing laws and regulations on environmental protection, as well as seeking financial resources for common activities of the two sides.
Michiyo Kakegawa, a representative of the Japanese Ministry of the Environment, affirmed the necessity of refining the legal framework and seeking enterprises with the capacity and technology to recycle outdated equipment and hydrocarbon products, as well as to send experts to help Vietnam with its treatment of urban and solid wastes.
In the future, Japan will cooperate with the Vietnamese MoNRE, partners, donors and other agencies to enhance propaganda towards enterprises and the people on the proper use of natural resources, pollution treatment and the environment.
The two ministries also signed an MoU on cooperation on environmental protection and climate change for the 2017-2019 period.
