The statement was made by Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung while attending a national online conference in Hanoi on January 9 to review the natural resources and environmental sector’s performance in 2016 and devise tasks for 2017.

The Deputy PM urged the MoRNE to review strategies and plans related to natural resources and the environment as well as restructure all fields of production to adapt to climate change.

He also emphasised that the ministry should closely monitor planning for mining, water and land projects to avoid wasting natural resources.

Deputy PM Dung asked the MoRNE to ensure that the investment and construction of projects which cannot satisfy the requirements of waste treatment are prohibited. Notably, the ministry must continue to keep a close watch on investment in production technology, environmental monitoring technology and environmental management, added the Deputy PM.

He noted that it is essential to enhance the inspection and examination of the use of land and natural resources as well as strictly handle all violations of the law.

Deputy PM Dung urged the ministry to soon form projects to counter air pollution in major urban areas, particularly in Hanoi as well as promote international co-operation to effectively implement measures to respond to climate change and rising sea levels.
