Vietnam wins first prize at photo contest on weather

The photo, named "The house in the storm" of the Vietnam's meteorological and hydrological agency has won the first prize at a photo contest on weather and the climate.

The photo contest was organised by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)’s Hurricane Committee, under the framework of the 51st Annual Meeting of WMO’s Hurricane Committee held in Guangzhou, China, from February 26 to March 1.

The contest attracted the participation of 14 countries and territories who are members of the Hurricane Committee.

The organising board presented two second prizes and two third prizes to the meteorological and hydrological agencies of China and Hong Kong (China), and two consolation prizes to the meteorological and hydrological agencies of China and Japan.

The photo "The house in the storm" by Luong Thanh Hai from Vietnam’s Nghe An, was selected from one of more than 1,000 works and won the photo contest themed “People and nature in the context of climate change for sustainable development” launched by the National Hydro-meteorological Service (NHS) under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in conjunction with the Vietnam Pictorial of the Vietnam News Agency.

The contest forms part of the activities marking the 50th anniversary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP)/World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Typhoon Committee and the 50th session of the committee to be held in Vietnam in 2018.

The organisation of a photo contest of the WMO’s Hurricane Committee is one of the active activities that show the spirit of solidarity and cooperation.
