Quang Nam launches anti-plastic waste campaign

The central coastal province of Quang Nam on June 4 held a meeting to respond to the Vietnam Seas and Island Week 2019 and the World Environment Day (June 5), while launching an anti-plastic waste campaign under the National Action Month on Environmental Protection.

At the event held in Dien Nam - Dien Ngoc Industrial Park in Dien Ban town, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam provincial People's Committee, Le Tri Thanh, called on local sectors, businesses and communities to act together to reduce toxic substances from being allowed into the environment, also by demonstrating the responsibility of caring for the ocean by spreading and inspiring towards gender equality as well as women and children empowerment in all areas related to the ocean.

Thanh also suggested the concerned units to organise communication activities on the purpose and meaning of the Vietnam Seas and Island Week and World Environment Day, forming a series of campaigns responding to the National Action Month on Environmental Protection 2019 in Quang Nam, with a focus on effectively implementing measures to halt plastic waste.

Thousands of workers attending the meeting pledged to immediately take actions to limit the use of single-use plastic utensils, as well as limiting and eliminating plastic bags to protect the environment.

After the meeting, delegates planted trees on roads and areas in Dien Nam - Dien Ngoc Industrial Park.
