ROK supports Vietnam in protecting forest ecosystems in Cat Tien National Park

The Republic of Korea (ROK) will allocate total US$1.232 million of funding to the project of “conserving and protecting biodiversity of forest ecosystems in Cat Tien National Park” through Asian Forest Cooperation Organisation (AFoCO).

The signing ceremony of the agreement for the fund was held via virtual form at three points including the headquarter of AFoCO in the ROK, the General Department of Forestry in Hanoi and Cat Tien National Park in Dong Nai Province on July 8.

The project will be implemented during the 2021-2025 period to promote conservation and development of biodiversity of forest ecosystems in the national park in association with the improvement of sustainable livelihoods for the community in buffer zone.

Under the project, a wide variety of activities will be carried out towards the goals of improving knowledge and sharing information on the biodiversity value of forest ecosystems in Cat Tien National Park to the local managers and policy makers as well as reviewing the impacts of climate change and social impacts on the biodiversity of the park.

The project also aims to enhance the management capacity of conservation and attract the participation of the local community in forest management and protection while testing models to improve sustainable livelihoods for people living in the buffer zone.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Deputy Director of General Department of Forest Pham Van Dien expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the ROK Government and AFoCo for their valuable support to the development and implementation of the project.

He also hailed the efforts of the management board of Cat Tien National Park, while affirming that the general department will direct and urge relevant agencies to achieve good results during the implementation of the project.
