PM appoints new officials for National Council for Water Resources

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has signed Decision No.932/QD-TTg to appoint new officials for the National Council for Water Resources.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has been named Chairman of National Council for Water Resources, while Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha has been appointed Vice Chairman of the council.

According to the PM’s decision, The National Water Resources Council will be established to advise the Government on important decisions concerning water resources within the tasks and powers of the Government.

Meanwhile, the National Water Resource Council will advise the Government, before any decisions are made by them, on the strategies and policies concerning national water resources; major river basin plans; plans for major inter-basin diversions; projects for protection, exploitation and utilization of water resources and projects for flood control and overcoming the adverse effects caused by water; management, protection, exploitation and utilization of international water sources and the settlement of any disputes that may occur.

In addition, according to the accompanying Regulation on the Organization and Operation of the National Water Resources Council, the Council will proactively investigate, recommend and advise the Government on all major policies, projects and important issues within the water sources field; organise discussions amongst specialists and scientists for recommendations on National water resources strategies and major and important projects under Government authority; make recommendations and report on major and important projects on water resources, as required by Ministries, agencies, and provinces or as required by the Government.
