The Global Forest & Trade Network was initiated in 2005 with the aim of preventing illegal logging and turning the global market into a force that protects the most valuable and threatened forests worldwide.

The membership certificate for the Global Forest & Trade Network was granted to Bao Chau company on September 13.

Dr. Le Thien Duc, a representative from WWF Vietnam said that Bao Chau is the first company in Phu Yen and the 10th company in Vietnam to join WWF's network.

He noted that these companies must take the lead in forestry development and be responsible for society and the environment, whilst also needing to develop plans towards receiving the WWF Forest Stewardship Council certification.

Duc also appreciated Bao Chau for accompanying the WWF towards the goal of sustainable forestry development and the responsible trading of wood.

Bao Chau Director Tran Dang Khoa said that he believes in the values created by the Global Forest & Trade Network and hopes that the forest managed by Bao Chau will attain sustainable standards on environment and society, helping the company to enhance the values of its products.

Bao Chau company is now managing over 2,000ha of planted forest in Phu Yen. After joining the WWF's network, Bao Chau will raise the area of forest to nearly 3,900ha, towards sustainable management under the support of the Global Forest & Trade Network.
