Works begin on third phase of Bac Lieu wind farm

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on January 30 in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu to kick off construction on the third phase of the Bac Lieu wind farm, costing a total of VND8.9 trillion (US$391.6 million).

The wind farm project is being undertaken by Super Wind Energy Cong Ly JSC and will have a total operating capacity of 241.2 megawatts when all phases have been completed.

For the third stage, an extra 71 turbines will be installed in Vinh Trach commune, raising the total number of turbines to 133 and providing an additional 142 megawatts of harnessed power.

The Bac Lieu wind farm is the realisation of Vietnam’s renewable energy development strategy as the world takes steps to mitigate climate change.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, the Bac Lieu authorities pledged to create a favourable environment so that the project will be finished on schedule and come into operation effectively.

In addition to power generation, the Bac Lieu wind farm has created more than 1,000 jobs.

The same day, work began on a wind farm in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang, which is designed to have a total operating capacity of 98 megawatts and will cost nearly VND5.4 trillion (US$237.6 million).

The first phase of the Soc Trang wind farm will have a capacity of 30 megawatts and is scheduled to be completed in three years.
