With a capacity of 168 megawatts and covering more than 186 hectares, it is considered the largest solar farm in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
The farm will cost an estimated VND4.4 trillion (US$194 million) and is scheduled for commercial operation in June 2019, providing 272,000 megawatts per year to the national power grid.
The plant will also create jobs for 200 local people.
With wind speeds averaging 7-8 metres per second and over 2,800 hours of sunshine each year, Ninh Thuan province has the greatest potential for harnessing renewable energy in Vietnam.
The province plans to raise its wind and solar power capacities to 1,400 megawatts and 2,000 megawatts, respectively, by 2020.
To date, the Ninh Thuan authorities have approved 10 wind farm projects and nearly 30 solar farm projects with a total capacity of over 2,000 megawatts.
A 6-megawatt wind farm has been put into operation, while three solar projects totalling 130 megawatts are under construction and are scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2019.
On the occasion, the investor presented VND300 million to a number of social organisations in Ninh Thuan province.
