Speaking at a press conference held in Hanoi on July 31 to announce the event, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy stressed that AI has been considered as one of the key technologies in the fourth Industrial Revolutionary in Vietnam and the world.

Many countries have recognised the inevitable development and the tremendous impacts of AI in all aspects of social life, including changing the balance of economic, military and political power, he said, adding that Vietnam is considered not to stand outside this development trend.

The Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Festival was launched to create a platform and motivation to foster the development of AI technology in Vietnam through the collaboration between research institutes, universities, businesses, technological groups, and startups from the AI community.

The event also aims to promote the research and applications of AI in key areas of Vietnam, including healthcare, education, trade, finance and agriculture.

The two-day event will gather hundreds of Vietnamese and foreign intellectuals working in AI, including Dr. Ulli Waltinger, the Head of the Machine Intelligence Research Group and Technology Head of the Siemens AI Lab at Siemens Corporate Technology, Assistant Professor Stefano Ermon from the Department of Computer Science at Stanford University, and game developer Peter Vesterbacka - the man behind the forever famous mobile game Angry Birds.
