Conference reviews development of information technology industry

A conference was held in the northern province of Bac Ninh on June 4 to review the information technology industry development programme for the 2015-2020 period.

The development programme came under Decision No.392/QD-TTg, as issued by the Prime Minister on March 27, 2015, on approving the target programme for the development of the information technology industry in the northern region until 2020, with a vision to 2025.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam said that the information – technology and telecom electronics have continued to be the major economic sectors of the country, with an estimated revenue of US$110 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9.8%.

The sector has created jobs for over 1 million labourers and contributed more than VND53 trillion to the State budget, he added.

At the conference, delegates assessed the objectives, tasks and solutions contained in the programme, especially the implementation of Decision No.392/QD-TTg and the role of information technology and telecom electronics in localities.

The participants also pointed out the difficulties and obstacles in the development of information technology, telecom electronics, while emphasising the importance of the enhancement of local Departments of Information and Communications.

Within the framework of the event, seminars and exchanges were held on the development of information technology and telecom communications in the localities as well as digital technology enterprises and value and supply chains.
