The event aims to respond to World Environment Day (June 5), World Ocean Day (June 8) and the Vietnam Sea and Islands Week.

Accordingly, thousands of officials and soldiers from the district’s agencies, units, unions and localities, as well as businesses and volunteers participated in cleaning up the environment and collecting waste in public places and beaches on Phu Quoc Island, aiming to create a green, clean, beautiful, safe and friendly environment.

Simultaneously, Phu Quoc district called on organisations, individuals and the community to exert joint efforts to protect biodiversity and innovate toward a sustainable ocean and sustainable marine economic development, towards the goal of making Phu Quoc a place without plastic waste.

People were also urged to combat the illegal trade and consumption of wild animals, reduce the use of plastic products and use natural resources in an economic and effective manner.

Previously, in June 2019, Phu Quoc district decided to choose the first Saturday of each month as the ‘Day for the Phu Quoc Environment’ with the motto “Each organisation and individual acting for a green, clean, beautiful, safe and friendly Phu Quoc environment”.
