The contest was organised by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in coordination with the Vietnam Electricity (EVN), the World Bank, and the Vietnam Fine Arts Association.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Director of the Energy Saving and Sustainable Development Department (under the Ministry of Industry and Trade) Phuong Hoang Kim, who is the head of the organising board, said that, after nearly two months, the contest had received 699 entries from 408 design experts, architects, painters, design units and students from schools of graphic design, fine arts, and individuals of all ages across the country. In particular, the contest also attracted the participation of amateur Vietnamese authors living and working abroad.
After two rounds of preliminary and final judging, the panel of judges selected 23 excellent works to participate in an online voting round using a fanpage system.
The panel of judges also selected ten works for consolation prizes, while one work with the highest valid online votes was awarded the online vote prize. Hanoi Open University was the unit with the most works submitted, with 180 works, winning the collective prize.
According to the organising board, the high quality of the entries was uniform; many works having unique ideas and interesting expression. Energy efficiency is considered the cornerstone of building a secure and sustainable energy system, while saving power is billed as one of the most effective measures.
Vietnam is currently home to 5,000 key corporations, which consume 35 percent of the nation’s total electricity, he said, adding that measures to save power in production are necessary to ensure energy security while reducing the burden for both businesses and the electricity sector.
In recent years, the Vietnamese Government has carried out a wide range of programmes to promote the efficient use of energy, such as the Vietnam National Energy Efficiency Programme (VNEEP), implemented during 2006-2015, which helped save 15 million tonnes of oil, as well as 3.4 percent and 5.65 percent of power during 2005-2010 and 2011-2015, respectively.
