NDO – The High Command of Military Region 3 held a ceremony at Regiment 43 (Division 395) in Hai Ha district, Quang Ninh province on March 26 to launch a tree planting campaign “For a green Vietnam” in response to the Prime Minister’s plan to plant one billion trees between 2021 and 2025.

The event was attended by Lieut. Gen. Vu Hai San, member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of National Defence.

In the next five years, Military Region 3 targets to plant more than 300 hectares of forest covering defence land, together with over one million trees, including around 900,000 timber trees and other environmentally suitable trees, as well as more than 100,000 fruit trees.

It is known that every year, the armed forces of nine provinces and cities directly under Military Region 3 regularly launch the planting of nearly 200,000 trees of all kinds. In particular, in the 2021 Lunar New Year tree planting festival, Military Region 3 planted approximately 182,000 trees, including more than 13,000 fruit trees and nearly 170,000 environmentally suitable trees.

* On the same day, the Gia Lai Provincial People’s Committee, in coordination with the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) and Tien Phong Newspaper, launched a tree planting campaign “For a green Vietnam” in Bien Ho commune, Pleiku city.

The event is part of the activities within the 2021 Tien Phong Marathon National Championship, set to be hosted by the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai on March 27-28.

On the occasion, Tien Phong Newspaper and Agribank presented over VND1.2 billion (US$52,214) to the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Department to buy seedlings for tree planting in Gia Lai in 2021.

After the launch ceremony, delegates and local people planted 200 three-leaf pine trees in Bien Ho commune.
