The announcement was made at the conclusion of a three-day virtual conference in New York, USA, with the theme ‘From Recovery to Prosperity’. It featured panel discussions and presentations from mayors, CIOs, futurists, researchers and other experts in the Intelligent Community field.

Other cities and counties honoured in the Top7 included Curitiba, Parana, Brazil; Langley Township, British Columbia, Canada; Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; Moscow, Russia; Townsville, Queensland, Australia; and Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Candidates in the Top7 must meet six intelligent community indicators, including broadband connectivity, knowledge workforce, innovation, sustainable development, digital inclusion, and community engagement.

Previously, Binh Duong had made itself onto the ICF’s list of 21 localities worldwide with outstanding smart city development strategies (Smart21) for three consecutive years.

Gaining a place on the year's Top7 list is considered as the international community’s recognition for the sound strategies and firm development of Binh Duong over recent years.

There are currently 180 members from different countries, territories, cities and regions participating in the ICF.
