Development of 'Make-in-Vietnam' digital platforms promoted

The 'Make-in-Vietnam' digital platform is considered a soft infrastructure of the digital space, helping to solve the problems of digital transformation, create and store user data, and create leverage for Vietnam's technology enterprises to integrate internationally.

According to Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung, it is impossible for all data of Vietnam's digital economy to be released and stored abroad by foreign companies. Therefore, Vietnamese digital technology enterprises must accelerate and master digital infrastructures and platforms for each industry and field, and this is also considered as an opportunity for 'Make-in-Vietnam' platforms to develop.

At the national forum on the development of Vietnamese digital enterprises in Hanoi on December 11, the Ministry of Information and Communications announced 35 'Make-in-Vietnam' platforms, which were divided into six groups: digital infrastructure; digital government; core digital technology; fields of health, education, culture and society; finance, banking and business; and agriculture, transportation, logistics, industry and trade.

Previously, in 2020, the Ministry of Information and Communications has launched 38 'Make-in-Vietnam' platforms, focusing on areas such as online training, online conferencing, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence (Al) technology, health consultation, medical examination and treatment.

With approximately 100 million people, Vietnam is a promising market for 'Make-in-Vietnam' products. And nearly 100 'Make-in-Vietnam platforms announced by the Ministry of Information and Communications in the past two years have confirmed that Vietnam's digital businesses are fully capable of mastering technology and competing with similar international platforms.

In fact, many businesses have moved from foreign digital platforms to domestic ones because most of these products are aimed at and focus on the essential needs of the community such as: health, study, and play.

In addition, 'Make-in-Vietnam' products have the advantage of lower costs, a permanent customer support team, and no barriers in language, culture or time.

When the COVID-19 epidemic occurs, it is both a challenge and an opportunity, putting organisations and businesses in front of the requirement to accelerate the speed of digital transformation, and at the same time to choose cost-effective solutions.

With the strategy of developing 'Make-in-Vietnam' digital platforms, Vietnamese businesses will have a strong transition from assembly and processing to creativity and design. Since then, many technology products were created, owned, and developed by Vietnamese people right in the Vietnamese market, contributing to adding value to Vietnamese products, establishing Vietnam's position in the world’s "digital map".

The Government and functional agencies need to actively improve institutions and laws, and deploy appropriate digital technology development strategies. The Ministry of Information and Communications needs to promote the communication and promotion of digital platforms in the country, creating trust for organisations and businesses when choosing products. At the same time, Vietnam's technology enterprises need to promote their pioneering and leading role in order to attract start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises to jointly build service platforms to better serve the government, businesses and people.

In addition, although 'Make-in-Vietnam' platforms have a great competitive advantage in terms of cost, the most important thing is product quality, which must show outstanding and different features compared to similar foreign platforms. Then domestic digital platforms will find a firm foothold in the market.
