In his opening speech, MoST Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Khanh said that the event provides an opportunity for Vietnamese scientists to gain access to updated information on science, and develop cooperation with German partners.

It also presented cooperation projects which would contribute to raising the research capacity of Vietnam while nurturing Vietnamese-German ties.

Over the past two decades of their bilateral cooperation, Vietnam and Germany have launched many cooperation projects on scientific research and technological development, which have brought about positive outcomes.

Germany has funded a number of profitable projects for Vietnam, including the ‘Real Time Monitoring of Urban Transport - Solutions for Traffic Management and Urban Development in Hanoi’ (REMON) project and the Akiz project on managing waste water systems in industrial zones in Vietnam, together with other projects in urban development, bio-economy, and health research.

As the MoCST is working closely with the BMBF in building projects under the ‘CLIENT II – International Partnerships for Sustainable Innovations’ programme, which placed Vietnam as one of five major partner countries of Germany, he expressed his hope for feasible projects that could help Vietnam to address the impacts of climate change in Mekong River Delta region.

According to Germany Consul General Andreas Siegel, the Vietnam-Germany bilateral cooperation could provide both sides with solutions to cope with future challenges such as water resource management, sustainable development, and climate change, adding that Germany has strong advantages in such fields, thus it will always be willing to support Vietnam.

At the event, representatives from Vietnam and Germany talked about science and technology in both countries, current cooperation projects in many fields as well as Vietnamese and German funding opportunities for cooperation and education in science and technology.

Researchers, students in addition to numerous research and development oriented enterprises also had a chance to learn more about the scientific and technological cooperation between Vietnam and Germany and seek for collaboration partnerships and funding support.
