The opening gathered together honoured guests from Quy Nhon provincial People’s Committee, the French Embassy in Vietnam and over 120 scientists from 20 countries around the world.
These are two of a series of 18 international conferences on space science, to be held at ICISE in 2017, which are part of the 13th Meeting Vietnam 2017.
Scientific conferences are held to discuss issues studied in cosmic radiation, dark energy, massive objects in the universe, neutrinos in the atmosphere, and problems in Neutrino accelerators.
Parallel to the conference, the class "Vietnam school on neutrino" will also organised with the participation of more than 20 young Vietnamese scientists and is supported by leading Neutrino scientists from Japan.
According to Prof. Tran Thanh Van, chairman of the Meeting Vietnam Association cum co-founder of the “Rencontres du Vietnam” (Meeting Vietnam) conferences, there are three main activities in the scientific research series: cosmology, discussing issues related to the universe, its structure, development and fate; the Vietnus 2017, studying the challenges and limitations of science research and experimental sciences on neutrino particle; and the Vietnam school on neutrino.
French Ambassador to Vietnam, Bertrand Lortholary, said that with a range of scientific research activities, the ICISE will help to promote an enthusiasm for science in younger generations. There are also a great deal of scientific activities exploring the influence of fundamental science on society and human life, which will nurture the dreams of young scientists and train them in the field of basic science.
According to chairman of Binh Dinh People's Committee Ho Quoc Dung, local authorities are working in conjunction with ICISE to build a space for a science universe, including a space model, astronomy observatories and a science exhibition area, which are expected to become the highlights of the Quy Hoa Urban Area and Science and Education Centre in the future.
The Quy Hoa complex in Quy Nhon city would be the ideal place to stimulate research, with creation and discovery activities for Vietnamese and international science sectors, and serving as a compelling address for scientific experiments on a wide range of topics, enabling young people to explore, interact and apply science, Dung stressed.
Held for the first time in 1993, Meeting Vietnam is the most prestigious series of international physics conferences in the country and have attracted hundreds of astronomers and scientists from around the world. This year Professor T'Hoof Gérard, from Utrecht University in the Netherlands, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1999, will be present at the event.
According to the Meeting Vietnam Association, the 13th Meeting Vietnam 2017 will feature 18 events, including 12 international scientific conferences and six international symposium classes.
Meeting Vietnam 2017 kicked off at the beginning of the year (from March 8-10) with an international workshop on environmental pollution, with discussions regarding the measures to deal with the issue. Then important highlights are the series of conferences on cosmology and neutrino this July, in Quy Nhon.
Along with official scientific activities in the series of scientific seminars, international physics classes are also organised throughout the Meeting Vietnam agenda, to inspire scientific research among young students and lecturers in domestic universities. From 450 registration applies, the organising committee have selected 150 Vietnamese students and ten scientists working at home and abroad to join in such classes.
