The event was organised by the International Youth Robot Association (IYRC) in collaboration with the Centre for Youth Science and Technology Development (under the HCM City Youth Union).

The contestants, who are primary and secondary school students, were selected from the best in the provincial and municipal Robot Talents Contests (Robotacon), which were held nationwide during last April and May.

They competed in computer programming and robot control in seven individual and team events, focusing on material recycling, rescuing forests and oceans, football and creation.

After a day of intense competition, the organisers announced 16 winners in the seven events. They will receive financial support to register to participate in the IYRC International Youth Robot Competition 2018 to be held in Thailand this November.

Duong Thi Chi Mai, a representative from the organising board, said that the event was designed to open the playing field for pupils across the country who are passionate for science and technology, especially in the field of programming and manufacturing and controlling robots.
