Speaking at the award ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam spoke highly of the research works and contributions made by scientists to socio-economic development over the past few years.
He said that the award acknowledged not only the outcomes of the winning scientists’ research works but also the efforts they make in their work.
This year’s awards honoured four outstanding projects: the project on building technological process for producing the A/H5N1 subtype bird flu vaccine in Vietnam by Prof. Le Tran Binh, Assoc. Prof. Dinh Duy Khang and Dr. Tran Xuan Hanh; the study of a special combination of materials for the production of a combat support kit for soldiers and an 85mm dynamic passive core by Dr. Nguyen Van Thao, Assoc. Prof. Doan Dinh Phuong, and Dr. Le Van Thu; the research and development of the technology on industrial and medical hazardous waste treatment by Assoc. Prof. Trinh Van Tuyen, Engineer Mai Trong Chinh and Dr. Nguyen The Dong; and the research on rice breeding for the Mekong Delta by Prof. Nguyen Thi Lang.
The Tran Dai Nghia awards were presented for the first time this year to honour scientists who have made outstanding and applicable researches in mathematics, information science and computing, mechanics, physics, chemistry, life sciences, earth science (including oceanography) and the environment.
The award is named after professor and academician Tran Dai Nghia (1913-1997), an eminent scientist who devoted his life to science in Vietnam, particularly in the field of military science. He was also one of the first generals of the Vietnam People’s Army.
