Vietnam launches new postcode system for accurate positioning

The Ministry of Information and Communications has unveiled a new postcode platform, known as Vpostcode, which combines the national postal code and digital map codes to allow for the exact positioning of an address.

The new system is expected to optimise the delivery process for postal, transportation, logistics and e-commerce firms, whose success is at least partly dependent on determining their customers’ exact location.

The Vpostcode of an address consists of 12 alphanumeric characters, of which the first five characters are the national post code, followed by seven characters representing the address on a digital map.

Since the new post codes are determined by digital map coordinates, not geographical areas, they are highly accurate and stable.

To date, more than 23 million addresses across the country have been assigned with the new codes, which are accessible on the web at https://vpostcode.vn.

Speaking at the launch on May 7, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam stated that the Vpostcode system is a significant beginning to not only the postal sector and businesses but also in state management.
